Exterior Paint Color: Charcoal

With the quickly approaching arrival of a new exterior wall comes the arrival of a new exterior paint color. First, I was convinced I wanted our house to be white but after observing other homes with white paint, I noticed how dull and dirty they look. I could go outside after each rainstorm and clean off the walls but let’s be real here – I would never do that.

Then I started noticing beautiful charcoal exteriors over on Pinterest (like this one and this one) and I was nearly sold. With charcoal on my mind, I set out to find some colors to test out. Here are four I came up with.

Even though I think charcoal can really work with our home, the neighbors would probably think otherwise (we might already be the crazies in the neighborhood though, maybe we should just embrace it?). Although I think it beats the bright orange and cobalt blue house we live across the street from. Another thing to consider is resale value; curb appeal matters, I get that.

Either way, I couldn’t help but explore some options. So far, a dark charcoal exterior is what we are leaning towards. What do you think? Should we go for it or have we fallen off the deep end? Which color choice is your favorite?

  1. I have a stucco exterior walled home. The current stucco is chipping and showing different coloration. It would be so awesome if I could get the stucco repaired so that I can repaint my home. http://www.braendelpainting.com

  3. Great article thanks.

  4. I would go with the charcoal color and a lighter trim color. I like the charcoal.
