This is the first year as a family that we’ve been able to fit a large Christmas tree in our home. Last year we decorated a table top tree for our small home but before then we had never had a Christmas tree, instead I used spruce clippings to make a fresh garland one year and a vase-tree another year. The children were elated to pick out and decorate a tree this year and had a blast doing so. The fun continues due to our resident toddler removing and throwing the ornaments around the house daily. Afterwards, the older children will find an ornament under a piece of furniture and eagerly put it back on the tree. On the bright side, it keeps all parties involved equally entertained.
I had planned to make a faux-fur tree skirt for the tree but haven’t gotten around to it and I have yet to find a suitable tree topper. The gold ornaments (from Target) have been bothering my OCD tendencies as I’ve been striving to arrange them just right. I’d love to be the kind of person that doesn’t get annoyed by two glitter ornaments directly next to each other but I’m still working on that. That annoyance leads me to understand why some families set up two trees each year – one for the gold ornaments and one for the ornaments crafted by little hands. Even without a tree topper and tree skirt, we’re still smitten.
On the other side of our living room, I hung our “O Holy Night” banner with some LED string lights and another set of string lights on our windows in this room. Part of me wants to hang fresh garland in every room of the house but being that there are still boxes in just about every room, I’ve decided to hold off on that until next year. (On an unrelated note – that tweed chair is going strong at two years and still not refinished – procrastination at its finest.)
