Inspiration: The Entry Way

The entry way in our home isn’t an official entry space. Our front door opens up into the dining room with the kitchen not too far behind. An entry way is a heavy worker in a home, it needs to be functional and tidy, mainly to avoid keeping the front door open for a long period of time. Have you ever seen six people try to get through a door in a relatively short period of time? It’s comical, really. Especially when you consider that if we leave the door open for longer than one minute our cat will dart out into the yard or a dozen mosquitos will help themselves inside.

Needless to say, our entry way needed some help to work for us. Thankfully we have an entry closet, which is a good place to start. I dedicated my time during the last few weeks of my pregnancy on getting this space exactly how I wanted it to be. You may have caught a glimpse of it on my Instagram feed. It’s not quite done but will be after a few more finishing touches. I worked with Kwikset on this project and am so happy with how it’s shaping up.

Before I show you the full reveal, let’s talk about my inspiration.

My number one necessity is a place to hang my purse and put my keys. I love a good coat rack and have been digging a built-in look.

After seeing the cutest little shelf in Kaitie Moyer’s entryway, a shelf made it on my must-have list (you know I love shelves). Cathy’s towel rack only confirmed how lovely a shelf and peg hanger combo can be.

One last thing I wanted for our entry way was a new door. A simple door with windows at the top, like the one we had at our old house, is a classic choice I was happy to repeat. I couldn’t find a good deal online but was able to find exactly what I wanted in-store at Lowes. My father-in-law installed it and now it’s waiting for a fresh coat of paint.

Black is the obvious choice, I’ll be using a black door handle and love the black on black look. With that said, a warm gray is also a contender. Of course, being me, I’m having the hardest time making a simple decision.
